TRANSMISSIONS

Photography is a medium of light just as dance is a medium of movement. All of my work is concerned with this fact. Turn off the lights in a windowless room and there is no photography. We see because of light. Light informs all forms for without it nothing is visible. My reaction to the world around me is based on light. I react differently to hard light, soft light, frontal light, and side light. Light and matter are intertwined and their relationship is responsible for most of my awareness of the physical world. Sometimes light emanates from within instead of falling on something. It is as if matter itself contains light. It is then that I realize it is not the subject that is important but what I evoke from it that is. These photographs, Transmissions, are about this, light emanating from within. Being transmitted.
